7ONE6 [New Noise #031]

7ONE6 - SomeoneCalledSomeone
7ONE6 - SomeoneCalledSomeone

Buildings buildings buildings. Every since the Bomb Dropped (which is a bit of a misnomer, it was several bombs and even more than that myriad devices of destruction originating from various countries in conflict destroying each other in brutal harmony) just felt grey and bleak. Once dignified humans forced to live among the memories and rubble.

However, there was hope - a piece of paper with a simple coordinate. Not only that , but a small packet attatched with a direct - "DIG 3 INCHES AND INSERT. DO NOT OPEN UNTIL 7ONE6" it has an oddly foreboding tone but in this world, ritual means a lot. Though you are unsure of the origins of this packet, you know you must respect it.

The simple "address" was enough to inspire hope, like the map on the back of that girl in Waterworld

the classic #27 - a dystopian map to Everest
the classic #27 - a dystopian map to Everest

After what seemed like weeks of journey across barren and semi-barren landscapes both scarce and urban, you finally come across the "encampment" (although it's more of a combination neighborhood/market) . A big banner flag hanging over the front gate formed from corrugated metal sheets reads:

7ONE6

Giant speakers flanking the gate pump out a music more solid than the semi-razed buildings. The sound draws you toward the outpost...

[I KNOW YOU CAN TELL 0:00]

The speakers bleed at atmosphere, not bleak, but emotional yet militant. A soulful melody hums through the sonic canvas and the beat drops with the vocal:

[SOMEONECALLEDSOMEONE 0:20-1:40]

"I think my life is like a movie lately

a coolest day dream

i move with straight ease

dont wanna smoke like you was

newly 18......

Aint got no friends outside my circle crew

A dirty move is when you got it most around you

somehow think that they deserve it too

Hard lesson grasped

but see I learned it's true

steppin back -

You'll find a clear connected path - like a circuit loop"

Someone decked out in the most rugged fly kit is spittin crazy ass bars with a velvet voice that hits like well......Bombs Dropping. The fit is overly cozy to the point of obscuring his (?) face fully, rendering him more of an entity than a human.

not quite like this but like, imagine?

As you make your way into the entry of this post-apocalyptic village, He comes over to you, and you feel compelled to express your appreciation. It's rare to hear expression, let alone such refined and passionate expression in this war torn world.

"Crazy bars dude, what's your name?" "Someone"

"That's nice, but what do they call you" "I'm Someone....Called Someone."

"Listen man I'm not asking which Someone you called i'm asking what Someone calls YOU"

"Someone"

"Yes, called what?"

"CalledSomeone...."

The exchange goes in circles for a while as local folk gather around, seemingly in calm excitement for the realization that is about to set it....

Again, kind of like this, but not quite.
Again, kind of like this, but not quite.

"OH YOU'RE SOMEONECALLEDSOMEONE"

You sense a grin behind his mask as some of the onlookers, though in survival mode, find the humor in your lapse of comprehension.

He shakes your hand and pulls you into the commune with the energy that says "just follow me" without words.

Ducking in and out lean-tos and more permanent establishments you finally land in an open concept "cafe". Painted on the concrete facade it says:

[SOMETIMES 0:00]

There's a drumset made of garbage cans and found vessels. There's a guitar fashioned out of an old cabinet and some weed whacker wires. Both are commandeered by masters of their respective pile of trash. The crudeness doesn't take away from the vibe.

The guitar swipes again and again in rhythmic accent as Oscar The Grouch keeps the tempo in crisp harmony. SOMEONE CALLEDSOMEONE addresses the few casually gathered through a makeshit megaphone made of metal and mishappen mechanisms.

"Waking up with some motivation

I got these blues skies

Shining..

the vision clearer down the road less taken

aint with the small talk

aint with the soulless fakin

lost my mind once

take two like some stolen bases..."

SOMEONECALLEDSOMEONE effortlessly combining raw hip hop grit with a voice grown out of blues and soul.

The energy gets so elevated that the next ones wants to join:

[SKYSEEK 1:45]

"ay steel toed never mind

kickin them rocks

makin mountains out of the gravel

on the world that you walk

call it hustle and hard work

we aint paid for this job

it's the love that we all earn

aint no days off..."

The MC and his feminine counterpart provide rugged rhymes and silky harmony. You almost forget the desperation of your situation. Maybe it isn't that desperate? Maybe with music and love it isn't so desperate....

SCS seems to get a kick out of your soul rising and signals to this makeshift band to run one more...

[SOLID GROUND 0:00]

The bartender (if you can call it that, it's just "Gnome Tea" or water) casually slides on a vinyl on an old record player, he pumps an electric generator and the horn pumps a familiar sample.

[SCS 1:09]

"Sometimes you wear your heart

sometimes it weighs you down

sometimes you learn to let it go

sometimes your self is all you got

gotta keep yourself from fallin down

I hope you find your legs again..."

The music is throbbing through your being, reminding you of the true core of your humanity - in each other, not locked away in ourselves.....

Suddenly you remember the note that got you here... What was that attached packet?

"DIG 3 INCHES AND INSERT. DO NOT OPEN UNTIL 7ONE6"

You pop it open and see some seeds - apple seeds...It is common knowledge that nobody has even SEEN an apple in the last 17 years since The Drop.

You look around, though the city is ravaged the soil is returning to its' former health, and you being your work in planting a new world....
