You don't see yourself as a close minded person but you must admit (if only while quietly alone to yourself) that floating ass naked in a dark room filled with buoyant salt water wasn't on your sunday bingo card.
But there you are, bobbing like a forgotten apple in this "sensory deprivation" chamber -besides - it would be a waste of a birthday gift to not give it a try.
Rather than being completely alone with your thoughts in the saline chamber, you opt for one of their "Tour Guides" - Amanda Puryear El.
[TEJANA 0:00-50]
Synths sweep through your nervous system, "probably some healing frequency" you think, as a guitar phrase hops around the room like a curious frog between lilies.
"I'm holding a basket so I can place my soon to be tea
I'm afraid of the cactus but I'm next to this herbal patch
Yet I still boldly chop some down so I can have eggs with my nopales
The amazing aroma of bitter naranjas from a nearby tree fills my mind
As I invent some kind of brujeria mix..... These are all memories of me appreciating my South Texas roots...."
The story isn't what you expected, but still the vivid image paints in your stilling mind. Who is this girl? It seems of extreme importance all of a sudden, as the warmth in her story telling brings you back to your own childhood. "Whoa"
You figure you're really sinking into the experience as your host had suggested you might.....
The synths seem to be cocooning you, hugging your body and spirit with a sense of wellness. Somewhere in the soundscape spiritual male vocals seem to swirl into your cognition....
"Wait, is that... Bobby Pulido?!"
You figure the edible you took prior to showing up to your appointment must be hitting because there's just no w a y . . . .
Plumbing deeper into your mind, eyes closed, the next track begins to play....
[Introduction to Autism 0:00]
The room begins to vibrate gently. Almost a mother's heartbeat in calm knowing tempo. Colorful chimes enwomb your consciousness. This place feels safe, still, on the outskirt of your perception is a silky dissonance in the strings...
[Amanda Puryear El 1:00]
"I laugh loudly
Knowing my child can beat them all in their math
Have never met such a tiny person so intelligent
And perfect as he boldly always stands
Only those who carry warmth will coexist with a parent
Trying to do it all for her little man...."
The chimes move in mantra - repeating and elevating while the bass holds the ground together like mycelium. The strings swirl in the upper register feeling Sistine.
"Earth itself is a strange place
Who is anyone to point a finger
When Mother Nature's Our Healer, Teacher, and Preacher?"
It's hard to tell if the voice is "inside" or "outside". Everything blended into your perceptual canvas, a sense of well being envelops you.
Releasing from your identity your consciousness drifts toward waves Theta. Free form synesthetic images appear in your mind....
[Never Enough 0:00 - 0:45]
Water flows and dribbles off of dark green forest palms into scurrying streams. The moon illuminates this ancient place of nowhere as the river begins to speak
"Women act like they're cold -
As if they're pretending to be a blown up fish
Living on the ground with fins........."
The keys shimmer like reflected moonlight, the bass croons like a bullfrog, ambient swells and howling blues guitar paints the canvas of your cochlea. The tempo, the heartbeat, everything is in unison, the medicine is working.... FINAL THOUGHTS
The truth tellers in society are often revered but more often taken for granted as a fact of life. Celebrate the ones who dare to share, the impact will be tremendous.
